Storm Preparation

While it is uncertain what path a particular storm will take, there are steps you can take now to prepare yourself and your RV for possible significant storm conditions.

  • Pick up and stow any loose items around your RV, including lawn furniture, lawn ornaments, lights, flags, banners, grills, toys, etc.
    • These may become dangerous airborne objects under high wind conditions which could cause bodily injury and/or property damage.
  • Fill your water tank, and empty your black and gray water tanks, and close them soon in order to have adequate supply and capacity in the event of a loss of utilities.
  • Be sure to remove all awnings and similar attachments and store them in the RV or another safe place. They may be ripped from your RV under high wind conditions.
  • Be sure that you have adequate water, medication, fuel, batteries, non-perishable food, hygiene supplies, first aid supplies, etc.
  • Follow the “Hurricane Tips for RVers” (https://www.frvta.org/hurricane-tips-rvers/) put together by the Florida RV Trade Association.
  • Monitor weather conditions and pay attention to weather alerts to inform yourself of anticipated weather conditions.
  • Pay attention to weather alerts and emergency alerts from local authorities.
    • The state and county emergency alert system relies on cell phone alerts, broadcast alerts and sirens to notify residents of impending severe weather conditions.
  • Be prepared to evacuate the resort if weather conditions worsen and an evacuation order is issued by state or county authorities. Understand the evacuation routes.
  • If you remain at the resort after being ordered to evacuate by state or local authorities, you stay at your own risk. County emergency services will not initiate rescue operations during the storm after ordering an evacuation. Resort assumes no liability for injuries or damages resulting from natural or manmade disasters.
